(Note: There are spoilers for anyone who hasn’t watched seasons 2 and 3 yet. I have highlighted the start and end of those areas with red text. So, if you don’t want spoilers, don’t read those parts.)
It took me a while to get to watching Kuroko no Basuke, but once I did, I really did enjoy the series. (Just a note, I watched the Japanese version not the English version which has recently come to Netflix.)
The very first character I remember liking was Hyuga; that first scene where we see him in S01E01. I just thought he was sweet. ^-^ Though, after watching the full series, I don’t have too many characters I don’t like (there are two or three individuals I consider highly unlikeable, but… I will not be talking about them).
My top ‘favourites’ from this cast of characters, in no particular order, are: Riko, Hyuga, Midorima, Kise, Kasamatsu, Izuki, Kuroko, Kagami, Nigou, Aomine, and Akashi. I’m also fond of some of the other characters, but these are the ones I’m particularly fond off.
I really liked how the characters grew and changed throughout the series. Aomine is probably one of the best examples of this. Wow… that guy, if he hadn’t changed from when we first met him, he would have been in that ‘highly unlikeable’ group for me.
Spoiler Warning! (For new fans who haven’t watched Season 3.)
One of my favourite scenes with Aomine was in Season 3 where he starts crying; realising that the one who would have helped him get even better at basketball, the one who would have helped him open that door had been Kuroko.
Another favourite scene of mine is when he decks Haizaki…
Spoiler Warning End!
While we’re talking about the Generation of Miracles, do you also forget a particular character when you’re trying to list/remember them all, plus Kagami? For me, I always forget Kise for some reason…
Anyway, one thing I really liked about this series was how fast paced it was and the special effects during the games (particularly when characters went into ‘zone’) were great. I also really liked the intro and outro songs; they also had that ‘fast paced’ appeal.
While we’re talking about music, I really like how they’ve made songs connected to Kuroko no Basuke despite how we never see them anywhere in the series. It’s a really nice extra touch. Also, I feel the voice actors are really talented to be able to sing in their characters’ voices.
I was glad to learn more about basketball from this series. I’m still not completely clued up, but I’m better than I was before. ^-^ Personally, I feel I’d like to try to be a shooting guard if I were ever to get on the court. I think those 3-point shots are great! ^-^
(I have a lot more to learn about basketball before I even think about stepping onto a court of any sort, but… shooting guard would be something I’d be aiming for. [Pun not intended, but I’ll take it. XP])
Spoiler Warning! (For new fans who haven’t watched Season 2.)
While I was writing that bit about the shooting guard, I remembered one part of the series that was an
unexpected moment for me, which I was really happy about. It’s the final episode of the game between Seirin and Shutoku during the Winter Cup. When I was watching that, I had such a hard time just wanting Seirin to win as I also really wanted Shutoku to win. How I wished there would have been a tie, but then decided to side with our boys from Seirin. Imagine my surprise when they actually got a tie! I was so-o happy when that happened! ^-^ I’d never experienced anything like that in a series before; where I’d been wishing for something, but thought that it wasn’t going to happen and then it happened!
Spoiler Warning End!
All-in-all, Kuroko no Basuke was a fun series to watch. I’m glad I got to meet all the sweet characters in this series. Part of me would like to see them continue the series, but… I’m also glad if they leave it as it is now. (As a fanfic writer, I get it. When a story ends itself, just leave it. If you try too hard to make it keep going, it won’t necessarily be as good as the story that preceded it.)
Favourites:
• Character: Midorima.
• Team: Seirin.
• Episode: Kuroko no Basuke – Mou Ikkai Yarimasenka (OVA 2).
• Intro song: Can Do by GranRodeo. (Close second goes to Punky Funky Love by GranRodeo.)
• Outro song: Walk by Old Codex.
• Extra/Audio CD song: Go Go Too.
Recommendation Rating:
6/10. (Would have scored higher if they’d kept more clothes on certain characters…)
