Fan Side Musing – Royal Tutor Heine

When I stumbled across this particular series, I had no idea just how much I’d end up loving it. From

episode one I was enchanted! (‘Step step step step’, ‘Roll roll roll roll’… That’s all I have to say. XD) I hadn’t laughed so much in a long while; thanks Heine. ^-^ This series balances light-hearted and heavy stories quite well. Me, being me, I like the more light-hearted episodes, but I did enjoy the whole series and really hope they’ll create another season in the future. The movie was also good. It was nice to get some new characters in and I hope we’ll get to see more of Ivan and Eugene in the future. ^-^

One thing I really like about the Royal Tutor ‘franchise’ (for lack of a better term) is how the Japanese voice cast for Heine, the four princes and even Ivan and Eugene, also play their roles on stage in the stage productions! (I also really like how at the end of one of the episodes we got to see Heine and the four Glanzreich princes performing the outro song in costume. ^-^ This may have been a form of advertising for the stage play though which, in and of itself, is quite clever in my opinion.) It was interesting seeing the story portrayed on stage. It was a little different from the series, but still enjoyable. I was impressed with Heine’s actor’s portrayal of becoming ‘chibi Heine’ in some of the scenes. ^-^ Though, the one thing I particularly enjoyed was the little section at the end of the first production where Heine and the four princes performed snippets from the princes’ character songs. (Leonhard singing about his dislike of carrots and bell peppers…)

Back to the animated series and movie now. ^-^ Besides what I mentioned earlier, I really like their style of comedy. Heine’s chibi moments have to be amongst the best. Though, one of my other favourite comedic moments is with Bruno when he realises that Heine is nothing like the other tutors he’s had up until this point and could be his ‘master’. XD He’s so-o cute! I tend to forget that Bruno is only 16 years old, given his very mature demeanour. However, I am swiftly reminded that he’s only a first year in high school when his eyes go all sparkly at the prospect of learning something new from Heine. So adorable. ^-^ One other scene that sticks in my memory from the series is from S01E06 where Victor goes to Licht’s place of work and ‘helps out’ for a little while and, besides Licht, Heine is unimpressed. That scene with Victor trying to get Heine to speak to him again is great! XD

The artwork in the series is also beautiful. I love looking at the backgrounds; so detailed and so pretty. I also like it when we zoom in on particular objects; the ink wells and food spring to mind. ^-^ (Speaking of food, while mine isn’t quite as gorgeous as what would be seen in this anime, it definitely tasted lovely… Check out the Fan Side Menu next week for a recipe from Royal Tutor.)

On a slightly more ‘serious’ note, I felt that the way Heine deals with the princes in the series and movie taught me a lot about understanding others and being sensitive to their needs.

Besides what I learnt from Heine, I also feel he’s the kind of teacher you’d want to have in your life. He tries to understand his students and doesn’t try to make them fit into a prescribed ‘box’ like many other teachers do. He also takes on the responsibility of being a teacher and doesn’t leave the responsibility of learning only to his students. He does all he can to help them learn what he has to teach them. I wish that all teachers would have to go through a ‘Heine Test’ before being certified. I do wonder, if that were a reality, how many children would actually like school and be more educated due to the efforts of their teachers rather than being ‘injured’ like Leonhard was before Heine arrived.

So, in conclusion, if you haven’t watched The Royal Tutor yet, I highly recommend giving it a try (see

below for my recommendation rating). If you are already familiar with it, let me know who your favourites are and which scenes/episodes you think are best. (Just an extra side note: I’ve yet to read the manga, but I’m planning on getting to that as soon as I can. If you have any favourite parts in the manga you’d like to share with me too, I’d love to hear from you. ^-^)

Favourites:

Character: Heine. (Bruno’s a close 2nd.)

Episode: S01E04. (As always, I like the more relaxed episodes that have minimal drama.)

Recommendation Rating:

09/10.

One last thing, don’t forget to check out the Downloads page for the Royal Tutor Heine PC and phone

backgrounds I made for you. Just a side note on these: I used pink for Licht, but I know he can be

represented by an orange colour too. (I’ve included that colour in another Royal Tutor downloadable you’ll get to see in a few weeks. ^-^)

Until next time, keep enjoying your fan side of life!
